GARRLiC Products Now Available in the ACTRIS-ARES EARLINET Database
The ACTRIS-ARES EARLINET database now includes products derived from the GARRLiC (Generalized Aerosol Retrieval from Radiometer and Lidar Combined data) algorithm. This advanced retrieval method integrates primary observations from sun/sky photometers—such as spectral extinction aerosol optical depth (AOD) and spectral radiance—with elastic attenuated backscatter LiDAR profiles at multiple wavelengths (typically 355, 532, and 1064 nm).
By combining these datasets, GARRLiC provides a comprehensive set of aerosol optical and microphysical properties, including:
- Aerosol volume size distribution
- Complex refractive index
- Fraction of spherical particles
- Height-resolved aerosol concentration
The methodology behind GARRLiC is detailed in Lopatin et al., AMT, 2013 (DOI: 10.5194/amt-6-2065-2013) and on the ACTRIS-EARLINET website.
Accessing the Data
The new GARRLiC products can be:
- Visualized using the ACTRIS-AERIS ICARE visualization tool
- Downloaded through the EARLINET REST API via the /products/downloads route
Availability:
- Level 1 and Level 1b products have been available since December 18, 2024
- Level 1.5 products will be released in the coming weeks
